Removal Procedure

  1. Inspect the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
  2. If the brake fluid is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.

  3. Object Number: 787455  Size: SH
  4. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, remove the brake fluid with appropriate tool to the midway point before proceeding.
  5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  8. Compress the front brake caliper piston.
  9. 6.1. Install a large C-clamp over the top of the brake caliper housing and against the back of the outboard brake pad.
    6.2. Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the piston pushes into the brake caliper enough to slide the brake caliper off the rotor.
    6.3. Remove the C-clamp from the brake caliper.

  10. Remove the lower mounting bolt from the guide pin.

  12. Rotate the brake caliper upward until it stops.

  14. Remove the outboard brake pad.

  16. Remove the inboard brake pad.

  18. Remove the brake pad retaining clips from the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  19. Object Number: 783131  Size: SH
  20. Remove the brake pad retaining clip from the brake caliper.
  21. Remove all foreign material from the brake caliper using denatured alcohol.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 783127  Size: SH

    Important: When installing new brake pads, DO NOT reuse the old retaining clips for the brake pad. Use only NEW brake pad retaining clips.

  1. Install the brake pad retaining clips to the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  2. Object Number: 783131  Size: SH
  3. Install the brake pad retaining clip to the brake caliper.

  4. Object Number: 783120  Size: SH
  5. Ensure that the brake pad retaining clip in the brake caliper is properly seated.

  6. Object Number: 783130  Size: SH
  7. Install the inboard brake pad.

  8. Object Number: 783129  Size: SH
  9. Install the outboard brake pad.
  10. Rotate the brake caliper down into position.

  11. Object Number: 788118  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Install the lower brake caliper guiide pin bolt.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the brake caliper guide pin bolt to 42 N·m (31 lb ft).

  14. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  16. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling in Hydraulic Brakes.
  17. Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.

  18. Pump the brake pedal slowly and firmly to seat the brake pads.
  19. Burnish the new brake pads. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing .
