For 1990-2009 cars only
Removal Procedure
- Apply the park brake lever.
- Apply and release the brake pedal several times until the pedal becomes firm to deplete the power vacuum brake booster vacuum reserve.
- Disconnect the power brake booster vacuum sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
- Remove the master cylinder nuts (1).
- Without disconnecting the brake pipes, separate the master cylinder (1) from the power vacuum brake booster.
- Position the master cylinder aside and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent in an upright position.
- Remove the master cylinder O-ring seal (2).
- Disconnect the vacuum brake booster and check valve assembly (1) from the power vacuum brake booster.
- Remove the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement.
- Remove the power vacuum brake booster nuts (1).
- Remove the power vacuum brake booster (1).
Installation Procedure
- Install the power vacuum brake booster (1).
- Install the power vacuum brake booster nuts (1) and tighten to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).
- Install the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement.
- Connect the vacuum brake booster and check valve assembly (1) to the power vacuum brake booster.
- Position the master cylinder (1) and O-ring (2) to the power vacuum brake booster.
- Install the master cylinder nuts (1) and tighten to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).
- Connect the power brake booster vacuum sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
If necessary, a small amount of denatured alcohol may be used as a lubricant to ease installation. Do not use soap.
Ensure the O-ring seal is properly positioned on the master cylinder body.
