Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  3. Object Number: 2128791  Size: SH
  4. Remove the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
  5. Caution: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  6. Without disconnecting the brake hose fitting, remove the brake caliper and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.

  8. Remove the upper brake caliper guide pin (1) and the upper brake caliper guide pin seal (2).
  9. Note: The lower brake caliper guide pin is equipped with a bushing and must be installed in the same location as removed.

  10. Remove the lower brake caliper guide pin (3) and the lower brake caliper guide pin seal (4).
  11. Clean the brake caliper guide pins with denatured alcohol and allow to dry.

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply a light coating of high temperature, silicone brake lubricant to the brake caliper guide pins.

  2. Object Number: 2128792  Size: SH
  3. Install the upper brake caliper guide pin (1) and the upper brake caliper guide pin seal (2).
  4. Note: The lower brake caliper guide pin is equipped with a bushing and must be installed in the same location as removed.

  5. Install the lower brake caliper guide pin (3) and the lower brake caliper guide pin seal (4).
  6. Position the brake caliper to the brake caliper bracket.
  7. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  8. Install the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1) and tighten to  64 N·m (47 lb ft).
  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
