Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the instrument panel (I/P). Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement.
  2. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.

  3. Object Number: 1355862  Size: SH
  4. Remove the 2 bolts (1) retaining the I/P carrier to the brake pedal/steering column support bracket.

  5. Object Number: 1355857  Size: SH
  6. Remove the right 2 carrier retaining bolts (1).

  7. Object Number: 1276405  Size: SH
  8. Remove the 2 lower center carrier retaining bolts.

  9. Object Number: 1355854  Size: SH
  10. Remove the left 2 I/P carrier retaining bolts (1).

  11. Object Number: 1355858  Size: SH
  12. Located near the radio, remove the I/P harness retainer (1) from the I/P carrier.

  13. Object Number: 1356145  Size: SH
  14. Located near the HVAC blower motor, remove the I/P harness retainer (1) from the I/P carrier.

  15. Object Number: 1355861  Size: SH
  16. Located near the OnStar® module, remove the I/P harness retainer (1) from the I/P carrier.

  17. Object Number: 1355848  Size: SH
  18. Remove the left courtesy lamp (1) from the I/P carrier.
  19. Partially remove the I/P carrier from the bulkhead.

  20. Object Number: 1355866  Size: SH
  21. Remove the right courtesy lamp (1) from the I/P carrier.

  22. Object Number: 1355864  Size: SH
  23. Located near the steering column electrical connector, remove the I/P harness retainer (1) from the I/P carrier.
  24. If equipped with OnStar®, disconnect the connectors from the module.
  25. If replacing the I/P carrier, remove the OnStar® module. Refer to Communication Interface Module Replacement.

  27. Remove the steering column (1) and SIR connector (2) from the I/P carrier.

  28. Object Number: 1245594  Size: SH
  29. Position the I/P wire harness in order to remove the I/P carrier.
  30. Position the HVAC control assembly cables in order to remove the I/P carrier.

  31. Object Number: 1245584  Size: SH
  32. Remove the I/P carrier from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the I/P carrier to the bulkhead.
  2. Position the HVAC control assembly cables through the I/P carrier.

  3. Object Number: 1245594  Size: SH
  4. Position the I/P wire harness on the I/P carrier.

  5. Object Number: 1355865  Size: SH
  6. Install the steering column (1) and SIR connector (2) to the I/P carrier.

  7. Object Number: 1355864  Size: SH
  8. If equipped with OnStar®, connect the connectors to the module.
  9. If replacing the I/P carrier, install the OnStar® module. Refer to Communication Interface Module Replacement.
  10. Located near the steering column electrical connector, install the I/P harness retainer (1) to the I/P carrier.

  12. Install the right courtesy lamp (1) to the I/P carrier.
  13. Install the I/P carrier to the bulkhead.

  15. Install the left courtesy lamp (1) to the I/P carrier.

  16. Object Number: 1355861  Size: SH
  17. Located near the OnStar® module, install the I/P harness retainer (1) to the I/P carrier.

  18. Object Number: 1356145  Size: SH
  19. Located near the HVAC blower motor, install the I/P harness retainer (1) to the I/P carrier.

  20. Object Number: 1355858  Size: SH
  21. Located near the radio, install the I/P harness retainer (1) to the I/P carrier.

  22. Object Number: 1276405  Size: SH
  23. Partially install the 2 lower center carrier retaining bolts.

  24. Object Number: 1355854  Size: SH
  25. Partially install the left 2 I/P carrier retaining bolts (1).

  26. Object Number: 1355857  Size: SH
  27. Partially install the right 2 carrier retaining bolts (1).

  28. Object Number: 1355862  Size: SH
  29. Partially install the 2 bolts (1) retaining the I/P carrier to the brake pedal/steering column support bracket.
  30. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  31. Install the 2 center carrier retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
  32. Install the remaining carrier retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 20 N·m (177 lb in).
  33. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.
  34. Install the I/P. Refer to Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement.
