Removal Procedure
Caution: Replace the steering gear mounting bolts, the washers and the nuts every
time you remove the steering gear from the vehicle. Failure to replace the
bolts, the washers and the nuts may cause the steering gear to separate from
the vehicle. This could cause a loss of steering control and personal
injury.
- Position the front wheels and the steering wheel straight ahead.
- Tilt the cab. Refer to
Cab Tilting

- Mark the position of the steering gear input shaft and the cardan joint of the lower steering shaft.
- Remove the cardan joint nut and the washer.
- Remove the cardan joint bolt and the washer.
- Gently pry the cardan joint off from the steering gear input shaft.
- Remove the pitman arm. Refer to

- Place a container under the power steering gear in order to catch the fluid.
- Remove the power steering gear outlet hoses from the steering gear. Refer to
Power Steering Hose Quick Connect Fitting
.
- Remove the power steering gear inlet hose from the gear. Refer to
Power Steering Hose Quick Connect Fitting
.
- Remove the power steering gear mounting nuts.
- Remove the power steering gear washers.
- Remove the power steering gear mounting bolts.
- Remove the power steering gear.
Installation Procedure
- Install the steering gear to the vehicle.
- Install new power steering gear mounting bolts.
- Install new power steering gear washers.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install new power steering gear mounting nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 260 N·m (192 lb ft).
- Install the power steering gear inlet hose onto the steering gear. Refer to
Power Steering Hose Quick Connect Fitting
.
- Install the power steering gear inlet hose onto the steering gear. Refer to
Power Steering Hose Quick Connect Fitting
.
- Align the marks made from the removal procedure.
- Install the input shaft. Refer to
Lower Steering Shaft Assembly Replacement
.
- Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
