Tools Required

    • J 36022 Air Line Adapter
    • J 43263 Valve Spring Compressor
    • J 43267 Valve Stem Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

  1. Tilt the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  3. Remove the camshaft assembly. Refer to Camshaft Replacement .
  4. Remove the valve bridge.
  5. Remove the glow plugs. Refer to Glow Plug Replacement .
  6. Install the J 36022 adapter to the cylinder head.
  7. Apply compressed air into the cylinders to hold the valves in place.

  9. Install the J 43263 to the cylinder head to compress the valve spring.
  10. Remove the valve keys.
  11. Carefully release the valve spring tension.
  12. Remove the valve spring retainers.
  13. Remove the inner and outer valve springs.

  14. Object Number: 736676  Size: SH
  15. Remove the valve seals.
  16. Remove the valve spring seats.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the valve spring seats.

  2. Object Number: 736676  Size: SH

    Important: Lubricate the new valve stem seals with clean engine oil.

  3. Install the valve stem seals using the J 43267 .
  4. Install the inner and outer valve springs.
  5. Using the J 43263 compress the valve spring.
  6. Install the valve keys.
  7. Carefully release the valve spring tension making sure the valve keys stay in place.
  8. Install the valve bridge.
  9. Install the glow plugs. Refer to Glow Plug Replacement .
  10. Install the camshaft assembly. Refer to Camshaft Replacement .
  11. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  12. Lower the cab.
