DEFINITION: High beam headlamps operate properly, but the high beam indicator is inoperative.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Place the headlamp switch in the HEADLAMP position.
  2. Place the headlamp dimmer switch in the HIGH position.

Does the high beam indicator illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Remove the instrument panel cluster (IPC).
  2. Probe the voltage supply circuit of the high beam indicator at the IPC connector with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Connect a test lamp between the voltage supply circuit of the high beam indicator and the control circuit of the high beam indicator at the IPC connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Inspect for poor connections or an open filament at the high beam indicator bulb. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Repair an open or high resistance in the high beam indicator voltage supply circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Replace the IPC. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming.
