Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Place the headlamp switch in the PARK position.
  2. Operate the instrument panel (I/P) dimmer switch.

Does the interior backlighting illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Remove the marker lamp relay.
  2. Probe the coil side voltage supply circuit of the marker lamp relay with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Connect a test lamp between the coil side voltage supply circuit of the marker lamp relay and the coil side control circuit of the marker lamp relay.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Probe the switch side voltage input circuit of the marker lamp relay with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a fused jumper wire between the switch side voltage input circuit of the marker lamp relay and the switch side output circuit of the marker lamp relay.

Does the backlighting illuminate?

Go to Step 10

  1. Leave the fused jumper wire connected.
  2. Disconnect the inline connector 212.
  3. Probe the backlighting voltage supply circuit of inline connector 212 with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Reconnect inline connector 212.
  2. Remove the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire between the backlighting dimming control circuit at the IPC connector and ground.

Does the backlighting illuminate?

Probe the ground circuit of the I/P dimmer switch at the IPC connector with a test lamp that is connected to battery positive voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 11

Inspect for poor connections at the marker lamp relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the headlamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs .

Repair the following in the coil side voltage supply circuit of the marker lamp relay:

    • An open
    • A high resistance
    • A short to ground

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Repair an open or high resistance in the switch side voltage supply circuit of the marker lamp relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Repair the following in the backlighting voltage supply circuit:

    • An open
    • A high resistance
    • A short to ground
