Cause

Action

DEFINITION: A rattle noise coming from the clutch components, with the clutch disengaged or engaged.

Review the Symptoms - Clutch and perform the necessary inspections.

Linkage needs adjustment

Adjust the clutch linkage.

Linkage is worn

Repair or replace the linkage as necessary.

Linkage needs lubrication

Perform lubrication maintenance on the linkage.

Clutch brake rattle

Replace the clutch brake. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

Idle rattle clutch engaged

Replace the clutch disc, due to faulty damper springs. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

Clutch is improperly installed

Remove the clutch and install it correctly. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

Clutch disc damper worn or damaged

  1. Inspect the clutch disc for a broken or worn damper.
  2. Replace the clutch assembly. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

Clutch pressure plate cover assembly is faulty

  1. Inspect the clutch pressure plate cover assembly for worn or damaged components.
  2. Replace the clutch assembly. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

Clutch disc splines and input shaft splines worn

  1. Replace the clutch assembly. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .
  2. Replace the input shaft. Refer to the transmission manufacturer service manual.
