J 41221 Oil Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

  1. Tilt the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cables. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  3. Raise the vehicle.
  4. Support the engine with a suitable stand.
  5. Remove the transmission assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  6. Remove the clutch, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .
  7. Remove the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 736715  Size: SH
  9. Using the J 41221 remove the oil slinger and the rear crankshaft oil seal.

Installation Procedure

    Important: The crankshaft rear oil slinger is gray. The front cover oil slinger is black.

  1. Install the J 41221 to the engine.
  2. Install the oil slinger into the adapter.
  3. Install the oil slinger sleeve to the adapter and tighten the center bolt until the sleeve comes in contact with the adapter and stops.
  4. After pressing in the oil slinger, make sure that the distance between the crankshaft end surface and the oil slinger is 10.5 mm (0.413 in) checking at several different points.
  5. Install the J 41221 to the engine.
  6. Apply clean engine oil to the oil seal lip making sure no oil is applied to the outside surface.
  7. Insert the oil seal adapter.

  9. Install the oil seal to the adapter, and tighten the center bolt until the sleeve comes in contact with the adapter and stops.

  10. Object Number: 737793  Size: SH
  11. After pressing in the oil seal, make sure that the distance between the crankshaft end surface and the oil seal is 7.5 mm (0.295 in) checking the measurement at several different locations.
  12. Install the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement .
  13. Install the clutch, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .
  14. Install the transmission assembly. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  15. Remove the engine support stand.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Connect the negative battery cables. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  18. Lower the cab.
