Are any indicators illuminated?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to OFF.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition.
  4. Open the driver door.

Does the chime sound?

Go to Step 4

Disconnect the instrument panel cluster (IPC).

Does the chime sound?

Go to Step 5

Is the vehicle equipped with a chime module (UL5)?

  1. Close the driver door.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the IPC key in ignition switch signal circuit and battery voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the driver door ajar switch.
  2. Place the key in the ignition.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the IPC key in ignition switch signal circuit and battery voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the key in ignition switch signal circuit for a short to ground between the ignition key alarm switch and the IPC. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs .

Test the key in ignition switch signal circuit for a short to ground between the driver door ajar switch and the ignition key alarm switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs .
