DEFINITION: The A/C compressor clutch will not disengage when an A/C request has not been made and a Powertrain DTC has not been set.

Did you review the HVAC operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Place the blower motor switch in the OFF position.
  3. Place the A/C request switch in the OFF position.

Does the A/C compressor operate?

Remove the A/C compressor clutch relay.

Does the A/C compressor clutch turn OFF?

Measure the resistance between the switch side A/C compressor clutch relay terminals.

Does the resistance measurement equal the specified value?

Disconnect the A/C evaporator temperature sensor.

Does the compressor clutch disengage?

Test the A/C request signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the A/C clutch relay control circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the A/C switch in the OFF position.
  3. Disconnect the evaporator temperature sensor connector.
  4. Probe the request circuit at the evaporator temperature sensor connector with a test lamp that is connected to voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the A/C request signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Test the A/C compressor clutch supply voltage circuit for a short to voltage before and after the high pressure switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
