Alignment is the proper positioning or state of adjustment
of parts in relation to each other. In order to ensure efficient steering
and satisfactory tire life, proper alignment of the front wheels must
be maintained. For details on tire wear patterns caused by alignment
problems. Refer to
Wheel Alignment Specifications
in Suspension.
The most important factors of front wheel alignment are:
| Kingpin inclination and camber are designed into the axle end. Check
the front wheel alignment at regular intervals and particularly after the
front axle has been subjected to heavy impacts such as a collision or
a hard curb impact. The wheel bearings must be properly adjusted before
checking the alignment. |
| Loose wheel bearings will affect the instrument measurements when checking
the wheel toe-in, wheel camber, and axle caster. When checking the alignment,
follow the instructions carefully. Also follow the instructions covering
each of these units: |
