Removal Procedure

  1. Tilt the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cables. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Discharge and recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  6. Remove the A/C condenser fan from the A/C condenser. Refer to Condenser Fan Replacement .
  7. Remove the A/C condenser hose from the A/C condenser.

  9. Remove the A/C evaporator hose.
  10. Remove the O-ring seal from the A/C condenser. Discard the O-ring seal.

  11. Object Number: 229717  Size: SH
  12. Remove the A/C condenser tube.
  13. Remove the O-ring seal from the A/C receiver/dryer or the dehydrator. Discard the O-ring seal.

  14. Object Number: 229725  Size: SH
  15. Remove the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator electrical connector from the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator pressure switch.
  16. Remove the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator clamp bolt.
  17. Remove the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator from the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator clamp.
  18. Remove the A/C condenser brace insulator nut and the washer.
  19. Remove the following components from the frame rail:
  20. 14.1. The nuts from the two A/C condenser mounting brackets
    14.2. The bolts
    14.3. The insulators
    14.4. Six washers
    14.5. The A/C condenser
  21. Remove the following components from the A/C condenser braces:
  22. 15.1. The nut
    15.2. The washer
    15.3. The A/C condenser insulator
  23. Remove the following components from the A/C condenser:
  24. 16.1. The nut
    16.2. The bolt
    16.3. The washers
    16.4. The bracket
    16.5. The upper A/C condenser brace
  25. Remove the following components from the A/C condenser:
  26. 17.1. The nut
    17.2. The bolt
    17.3. The washers
    17.4. The bracket
    17.5. The lower A/C condenser brace
  27. Remove the following components from the A/C condenser:
  28. 18.1. Two screws
    18.2. The A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator clamp

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator clamp to the A/C condenser. Secure the clamp with two screws.

  2. Object Number: 229722  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the lower A/C condenser brace to the A/C condenser. Secure the brace with the following components:
  4. 2.1. The bolt
    2.2. The washers
    2.3. The bracket
    2.4. The nut

    Tighten
    Tighten the lower A/C condenser brace nut to 70 N·m (51 ft lb).

  5. Install the upper A/C condenser brace to the A/C condenser. Secure the brace with the following components:
  6. 3.1. The bolt
    3.2. The washers
    3.3. The bracket
    3.4. The nut

    Tighten
    Tighten the upper A/C condenser brace nut to 70 N·m (51 ft lb).

  7. Install the A/C condenser insulator to the A/C condenser braces. Secure the insulator with a washer and a nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the A/C condenser insulator nut to 35 N·m (26 ft lb).

  9. Install the A/C condenser to the frame rail. Secure the condenser with the following components:
  10. 5.1. Two A/C condenser mounting bracket insulators
    5.2. Six washers
    5.3. Two bolts
    5.4. The nuts

    Tighten
    Tighten the A/C condenser insulator bracket nuts to 24 N·m (18 ft lb).

  11. Install the A/C condenser brace insulator washer and the nut.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the A/C condenser insulator nut to 35 N·m (26 ft lb).

  13. Install the A/C receiver/dryer or the dehydrator into the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator clamp.
  14. Coat the new O-ring seal with R-134a Swish Plate P/N AIPDN 2-90188-300-0.
  15. Install the new O-ring seal.
  16. Connect the A/C condenser tube to the A/C receiver/dryer or the dehydrator.
  17. Coat the new O-ring seal with R-134a Swish Plate P/N AIPDN 2-90188-300-0.
  18. Install the new O-ring seal.

  20. Connect the A/C evaporator hose to the A/C condenser.
  21. Install the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator clamp bolt.
  22. Install the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator electrical connector to the A/C receiver/dryer or dehydrator pressure switch.
  23. Install the A/C condenser hose to the A/C condenser.
  24. Install the A/C condenser fan.
  25. Connect the negative battery cables. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  26. Add the refrigerant to the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  27. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
  28. Lower the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.
