One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement Full Yoke/229
Removal Procedure
- Block the wheels.
- Support the propeller shaft.
- Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
- Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
- Remove the propeller shaft mounting from the 229 mm (9 in) brake drum.
- Remove the propeller shaft 1480 or 1550 series with outboard slip joint and half round end yoke.
- Remove the universal joints. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement .
Installation Procedure
- Install the universal joints to the propeller shaft. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement .
- Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.
- Install the slip yoke to the installed propeller shaft splined end.
- Install the front propeller shaft to the 229 mm (9 in) brake drum. Keep the alignment marks together.
- Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing.
- Install and tighten the propeller shaft half round end yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
- Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
- Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Propeller Shaft Assembly Component Lubrication .
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. - Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing.
- Install and tighten the propeller shaft half round end yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
- Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.

- Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.
- Install the slip yoke assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end.
- Install the front propeller shaft to the Yoke Flange (4 nut) mounting. Keep the alignment marks together.
- Install and tighten the propeller shaft full or half round end yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
- Install the propshaft to the yoke flange.
- Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing.
- Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
- Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Propeller Shaft Assembly Component Lubrication .
