Removal Procedure

Important: Always clean the connectors and lubricate the tool end in power steering fluid when inserting into the coupling.

Important: Check all power steering system quick connect connections by trying to pull the hose assembly out of the fitting using a firm hand tug. Repeat the step if the connector is pulled out of the male fitting. If the problem persists, inspect and replace the hose assembly if the quick connect is damaged.

  1. Tilt the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.
  2. Place a container under the power steering hose at the place of disconnection in order to catch the fluid when disconnecting or connecting hoses.

  4. Clean the surface of the hoses prior to disconnection.
  5. Remove the power steering hose clamp (1) nuts, bolts and washers as needed.

  7. Remove the power steering lines (1, 2, 3, 4) as needed.

  9. Remove the power steering lines at the steering gear fittings (1, 2) as needed.

  11. Remove the power steering lines (2, 3, 4) as needed.

  13. Disconnect the power steering pump hoses (1, 9).

  14. Object Number: 389808  Size: SH
  15. Remove the mounting bolts (4).
  16. Remove the crossover power steering hose assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the crossover power steering hose assembly.
  2. Install the mounting bolts (4), washers and nuts.

  3. Object Number: 389803  Size: SH
  4. Connect the power steering pump hoses (1, 9) to the pump.

  5. Object Number: 389805  Size: SH
  6. Connect the power steering line (2, 3, 4) if removed.

  7. Object Number: 227963  Size: MH
  8. Install the lines (1, 2, 3, 4) to the bulkhead if removed.

  9. Object Number: 227949  Size: MH
  10. Install the power steering lines at the fittings (1, 2).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  12. Install the power steering hose clamp nuts, bolts and washers as needed.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the following components:

    • Tighten the power steering pipe mounting to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
    • Tighten the power steering pipe adapter nuts at bulk head to 52 N·m (38 lb ft).
  14. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  15. Lower the cab.
