Removal Procedure

    Important: If a shock absorber is faulty, replace the complete unit. Refer to Struts or Shock Absorbers Bench Test and Suspension Strut and Shock Absorber Testing - On Vehicle .

  1. Set the parking brake.
  2. Block the front and rear wheels.
  3. Remove the upper nut (3) and washer (2).
  4. Remove the shock absorber from the crossmember.
  5. Remove the lower nut (7) and the washer (6).
  6. Remove the shock absorber from the lower mounting bracket (8).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the shock absorber to the lower mounting bracket (8).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the lower washer (6) and the nut (7).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the lower shock absorber nut to 61 N·m (45 lb ft).

  5. Install the shock absorber to the crossmember.
  6. Install the upper washer (2) and nut (3).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the upper shock absorber nut to 160 N·m (120 lb ft).
