Release of New Park Brake Cable Assemblies and Lubrication Maintenance Information

New parking brake cable assemblies have been released for the above-listed vehicles with manual apply parking brake systems.

In some cases, the parking brake cable eyelet at the parking brake hand lever may become worn. The new parking brake cable assemblies incorporate a revised eyelet that may aid in reducing wear at this location.

Some factors that may contribute to the wearing of the cable eyelet include the following conditions:

The cable eyelet connection at the hand brake lever is next to the driver's seat in the cab. This cable connection is out of sight and may not be inspected or lubricated at regular intervals as specified in the maintenance schedule.

Advise the customer that this cable connection must be inspected and lubricated at regular intervals. Refer to the chassis lubrication information in the Maintenance Schedule sub-section of the Service Manual (SI) for additional information. Use Lubricant P/N 12345718 (Canadian P/N 10953516).

If cable replacement is necessary, refer to the Park Brake sub-section of the Service Manual (SI) for procedure information.

For Chevrolet and GMC models, parts are expected to be available September 2, 2003 from GMSPO.

For Isuzu models, parts are to be obtained from AIPDN.
