Does the exhaust brake relay turn ON and turn OFF?

Measure the voltage at the following points during deceleration at the ECM ACC 1 or ECM ACC 2:

    • Between pin number 41 (ACC 1) and pin number 45 (ACC 1-GND).
    • Between pin number 42 (ACC 2) and pin number 46 (ACC 2-GND).

Does each voltage measure less than the specified value?

1.4 V

Inspect the brake pedal linkage lever condition and/or inspect the acceleration sensor adjustment.

Measure the voltage between pin number 20 (EXB/SW) and pin number 111 (GND) at the ECM side connector, with the key switch ON and the exhaust brake switch ON.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

Measure the voltage between pin number 7 (CL/SW) and pin number 111 (GND) at the ECM side connector, with the key switch ON and clutch pedal not depressed.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

  1. Remove the exhaust brake relay unit from relay connector.
  2. Connect the coil side of the relay to battery positive and negative.

Does the relay operate?

  1. Install all parts and harness.
  2. Use scan tool test mode to operate the exhaust brake relay activation when the ignition is ON, and the engine is OFF.

Did the relay turn ON and OFF?

Replace the exhaust brake relay.

Repair/readjust the brake pedal linkage lever condition and/or the exhaust brake sensor fixing condition.
