Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Block all of the wheels on the vehicle.
   • Apply the park brake.
   • Ensure that the shift control lever is in the N (neutral) position before you remove the shift cables.

  1. Remove the shift knob from the shift control lever.

    2. Object Number: 203427 Size: SH
  2. Remove the 4 screws that secure the shift boot to the shift control.

    3. Object Number: 203428 Size: SH
  3. Remove the 2 nuts, washers, and clips that secure the shift and select cables to the shift control.
  4. Remove the 2 nuts and washers that secure the shift control to the panel.
  5. Remove the shift and select cables from the panel.

  6. Remove the following fasteners securing the shift and select cables to the transmission select and shift levers:
    7. • The 2 bolts
    • The 4 washers
    • The 2 nuts
    • The 2 clips

  7. Remove the following fasteners securing the shift and select cables to the left frame rail. Note the routing of the shift and select cables:
    8. • The bolts
    • The nuts
    • The brackets
    • The clips

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the following fasteners securing the shift and select cables to the left frame rail:
    2. • The bolts
    • The nuts
    • The brackets
    • The clips

    Tighten
    Tighten the frame rail bracket bolts and nuts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  2. Route the shift and select cables through the panels.

  3. Install the 2 nuts and washers securing the shift control to the panel.

    4. Object Number: 203428 Size: SH
  4. Install the following fasteners securing the shift and select cables to the shift control:

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the shift and select cable nuts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

    • The 2 nuts
    • The washers
    • The clips

    Tighten
    Tighten the shift control panel nuts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  5. Install the 4 screws that secure the shift boot to the shift control.
  6. Install the shift knob to the shift control lever.
  7. Adjust the shift and select control cables.
