Adapter 3/8" NC to 5/8" NF |
- Remove the transmission
oil drain plug.
- Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container.
- If equipped, remove the power take off.
- Remove the clutch housing
bolts, nuts, washers, and lock washers.
- Remove the clutch housing from the transmission.
- Remove the propeller shaft
transmission yoke nuts.
- Remove the propeller shaft transmission yoke.
- Remove the speedometer
sensor from the speedometer bushing.
- Remove the shift control
bolts. Note the location of the shoulder bolts.
- Remove the shift control.
- Remove the shift cover
bolts. Note the location of the bracket attaching stud and the location of
the longer bolts.
- Using a pry bar at the corners remove the shift cover.
- Engage 2 gear sets to
prevent the mainshaft from turning.
- Using a suitable chisel bend the stake points on the flange nut
out of the grooves.
- Remove the yoke flange
nut.
- Remove the flange nut O-ring seal and discard.
- Remove the yoke.
- Remove the transmission
front cover bolts.
- Using 1 of the bolts in the threaded hole in the front cover,
remove the front cover.
- Using a screw driver between
the input shaft gear and the 6th gear synchronizer blocking ring, remove the
input shaft from the transmission.
- Remove the setscrew for
the speedometer gear bushing.
- Using the J 35833
(1) remove the speedometer gear bushing.
- Remove the speedometer
driven gear (1) from the speedometer drive bushing (3).
- Remove and discard the O-ring (2) from the speedometer
drive bushing (3).
- Remove the transmission
extension bolts.
- Remove the transmission extension and the gasket.
- Remove the speedometer
drive gear.
- Remove the retaining ring
from the outside of the mainshaft output shaft bearing.
- Using J 36513
(1), J 44759
(2), and J 44707
(3) remove the
mainshaft output shaft bearing.
- Remove the mainshaft bearing inner race.
- Remove the thrust washer.
- Lay the transmission case
on its side.
- Lift the front of the mainshaft and remove the mainshaft assembly
from the case.
- Using J 34539
(1) and J 2619-01
(2), remove the reverse gear shaft from the transmission
case.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal from the reverse gear shaft.
- Remove the reverse gear
spacer (1).
- Remove the reverse gear (2).
- Remove the reverse gear bearings (3) and the bearing spacer (4)
from the reverse gear (2).
- Remove the reverse gear thrust washer (5).
- Remove the O-ring (6) from the shaft (7).
- Remove the counter shaft
rear bearing retaining ring.
- Using J 22912-B
(1) and J 8433
(2), remove the counter shaft rear bearing.
- Remove the counter shaft from the transmission case.
- Remove the counter shaft
front bearing cover.
- Remove the counter shaft front bearing from the transmission case.
- Remove the input shaft
bearing cover oil seal from the input shaft bearing cover using a hammer and
a punch.
- Remove the mainshaft rear
bearing oil seal from the transmission extension using a hammer and a punch.
