- Apply a thin coat of transmission
oil to all of the shift shafts and bushings prior to installation.
- Install the shift levers, NEW seal washers, and shift shaft pins.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the nuts
for the shift levers.
Tighten
Tighten the shift lever nuts to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).
- Install the 3rd/4th shift
shaft and shift fork using the following procedure:
4.1. | Install the detent spring and the detent ball in the shift housing. |
4.2. | Install the shift shaft block pin in the hole of the shift shaft. |
4.3. | Install the 3rd/4th shift shaft (2) and the 3rd/4th shift
fork (3). |
4.4. | Push the detent ball into the cover while installing the shift
shaft. |
4.5. | Install the cap for the 3rd/4th shift shaft. |
- Install the 1st/2nd shift shaft and shift fork using the following
procedure:
5.1. | Install the detent spring and the detent ball in the shift housing. |
5.2. | Install the shift shaft block pin in the hole of the shift shaft. |
5.3. | Install the 1st/2nd shift shaft (1) and the 1st/2nd shift
fork (4). |
5.4. | Push the detent ball into the cover while installing the shift
shaft. |
5.5. | Install the cap for the 1st/2nd shift shaft. |
- Install the bolt (1)
for the 3rd/4th gear shift fork.
- Instal the bolt (2) for the 1st/2nd gear shift fork.
Tighten
Tighten the shift fork bolts to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).
- Install the reverse gear
shift shaft and shift blocks using the following procedure:
8.1. | Install the detent spring and the detent ball in the shift housing. |
8.2. | Install the shift shaft block pin in the hole of the shift shaft. |
8.3. | Install the reverse gear shift shaft (2). |
8.4. | Install the reverse gear rear shift block (3) on the shift
shaft. |
8.5. | Install the reverse gear front shift block (4) with detent
ball and spring. |
8.6. | Push the detent ball into the cover while installing the shift
shaft. |
8.7. | Install the cap for the reverse shift shaft. |
- Install the 5th/6th gear shift shaft (1) and the 5th/6th
shift fork (5).
- Install the cap for the 5th/6th shift shaft.
- Install the following
shift fork and shift block bolts:
11.1. | The shift fork 5th/6th (1) |
11.2. | The reverse gear rear shift block (2) |
11.3. | The reverse gear front shift block (3) |
Tighten
Tighten the shift shaft bolts to 37 N·m (27 lb ft).
- Install the reverse shift
shaft (2) and reverse shift fork (3)
- Instal the shift fork shaft (1) for the 5th/6th shift blocks
using the following procedure:
13.1. | Install the detent spring and the detent ball in the shift housing. |
13.2. | Install the shift shaft block pin in the hole of the shift shaft. |
13.3. | Install the shift shaft detent spring cover, the shift select
lever return spring, and the shift shaft detent sleeve in the rear shift block (4). |
13.4. | Instal the shift fork shaft (1) for the 5th/6th shift blocks. |
13.5. | Install the 5th/6th front (6) and center (5) shift
blocks. |
13.6. | Push the detent ball into the cover while installing the shift
shaft. |
13.7. | Install the reverse shift shaft detent spring and ball in the
rear shift block (4). |
- Install the cap for the reverse shift fork shaft and the 5th/6th
shift block shaft.
- Install the following
shift fork and shift block bolts:
15.1. | The front shift block 5th/6th gear (1) |
15.2. | The center shift block 5th/6th gear (2) |
15.3. | The rear shift block 5th/6th gear (3) |
15.4. | The reverse shift fork (4) |
Tighten
Tighten the shift fork and the shift block bolts to 37 N·m
(27 lb ft).
- Install the reverse shift
shaft detent sleeve, spring, and detent spring cover.
- Install the reverse lock out bolt (3) and NEW seal washers.
Tighten
Tighten the reverse lock out bolt to 71 N·m (52 lb ft).
- Install the back-up switch (2) and interlock ball.
Tighten
Tighten the back-up switch to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Install the neutral position switch (1) with the interlock
ball and interlock pin.
Tighten
Tighten the neutral position switch to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
