J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Tilt the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Remove the drive belt. Drive Belt Replacement In Engine Mechanical.
  4. Remove the electrical connector from the compressor.

  5. Object Number: 392205  Size: SH
  6. Remove the compressor hose assembly fitting bolt.

  7. Object Number: 221215  Size: SH

    Important: 

       • When removing sealing washers, keep dirt and foreign material from getting on the following sealing surfaces:
          - The washers
          - The block fittings
          - The compressor ports
       • Clean all of the sealing surfaces with a lint-free rag.

  8. Remove the compressor sealing washers. Discard the compressor sealing washers.
  9. Remove the refrigerant hoses from the compressor.

  11. Remove the idler pulley adjusting bolt.
  12. Remove the bolts from the mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Add the proper amount of oil to the compressor. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities .

  2. Object Number: 368472  Size: SH
  3. Position the compressor on the mounting bracket.
  4. Install the bolts on the mounting bracket. Do not tighten at this time.

  5. Object Number: 221215  Size: SH

    Important: 

       • When installing the sealing washers, keep dirt and foreign material from getting on the following sealing surfaces:
          - The washers
          - The block fittings
          - The compressor ports
       • Clean all of the sealing surfaces with a lint-free rag.
       • Do not reuse the sealing washers.
       • Do not oil the sealing washers prior to assembly.

  6. Install new sealing washers onto the pilots of the fittings. Ensure that the washers bottom against the surface of the fittings.

  7. Object Number: 392205  Size: SH
  8. Install the refrigerant hoses on the compressor hose block fitting bolt and washer.
  9. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the compressor hose block fitting bolt to the compressor.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  12. Install the mounting bracket bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  14. connect the electrical to the compressor.
  15. Install the drive belt.Refer to Drive Belt Replacement In engine mechanical.
  16. Install the idler pulley adjusting bolt.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the idler pulley nut to 39 N·m (29 lb ft).

  18. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  19. Leak test the fitting(s) of the repaired or reinstalled component using the J 39400-A .
  20. Lower the cab. Refer to Cab Tilting in General Information.
