Service Information

Service parts have been developed for the in-tank fuel pump and sending unit assembly (Part No. 8-25179-864-0), and are currently available from the American Isuzu Parts Distribution Network (AIPDN).

When fuel system diagnosis indicates the cause to be one or more components of the fuel pump and sending unit assembly, and component replacement is required, refer to the appropriate component service procedure in this Service Bulletin for replacement details.

Replacing the Fuel Pump - Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to page 4E-7 of 1996-1997 NPR EFI Driveability and Emissions Manual (NPG96-WSM-CS2) for details.
  3. Raise vehicle.
  4. Drain and remove fuel tank. Refer to page 4E-7 thru 4E-10 of Driveability and Emissions Manuals for details.
  5. Remove fuel pump and sending unit assembly from fuel tank. Refer to page 6C-4 of appropriate Service Manual.
  6. Important: Do not twist or rotate the strainer to remove it. Grasp the strainer by its metal retainer Ring and pull the strainer straight out from the fuel pump.

  7. Place fuel pump and sending unit assembly upside down on work and remove stainer from bottom of fuel pump.
  8. Disconnect electrical connector from fuel pump terminal.
  9. Grasp fuel pump and pull down on it to release it from its mounting bracket. Detach fuel pump from pulsator. Remove and discard existing fuel pump and rubber isolator.

Replacing the Fuel Pump - Installation Procedure

  1. Mount new rubber isolator onto new fuel pump (Part No. 8-25163-473-0). Reattach new fuel pump to pulsator and seat new fuel pump and rubber isolator into its mounting bracket.
  2. Reconnect electrical connector to fuel pump terminal.
  3. Important: Use extreme care when pressing the strainer into place. Do not damage the strainer fabric.

  4. Position strainer onto bottom of new fuel pump and press strainer firmly into place.
  5. Reinstall fuel pump and sending unit assembly into fuel tank. Refer to page 6C-4 of appropriate Service Manual for details.
  6. Reinstall fuel tank. Refer to page 4E-10 of Driveability and Emissions Manual for details.
  7. Lower vehicle and fill fuel tank with fuel.
  8. Reconnect battery ground cable.

Replacing the Sending Unit - Removal Procedure

  3. Raise vehicle.
  4. Drain and remove fuel tank. Refer to page 4E-7 thru 4E-10 of Driveability and Emissions Manuals for details.
  5. Remove fuel pump and sending unit assembly from fuel tank. Refer to page 6C-4 of appropriate Service Manual.
  6. Remove strainer and fuel pump. Refer to appropriate removal steps in REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP for details.
  7. Remove pulsator from fuel tube. Discard existing sending unit.

Replacing the Sending Unit - Installation Procedure

  1. Place new sending unit (Part No. 8-25162-804-0) upside down on work bench.
  2. Install pulsator onto fuel tube.
  3. Install the fuel pump and strainer. Refer to appropriate installation steps in REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP for details.
  4. Reinstall fuel pump and sending unit assembly into fuel tank. Refer to page 6C-4 of appropriate Service Manual for details.
  5. Reinstall fuel tank. Refer to page 4E-10 of Driveability and Emissions Manual for details.
  6. Lower vehicle and fill fuel tank with fuel.
  7. Reconnect battery ground cable.

Replacing the Strainer - Removal Procedure

Replacing the Strainer - Installation Procedure

  1. Install new strainer (Part No. 8-25055-460-0) to fuel pump. Refer to appropriate installation steps in REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP for details.
  2. Reinstall fuel pump and sending unit assembly into fuel tank. Refer to page 6C-4 of appropriate Service Manual for details.
  3. Reinstall fuel tank. Refer to page 4E-10 of Driveability and Emissions Manual for details.
  4. Lower vehicle and fill fuel tank with fuel.
  5. Reconnect battery ground cable.

Replacing the Pulsator - Removal Procedure

  7. Remove and discard existing pulsator from fuel tube.

Replacing the Pulsator - Installation Procedure

  1. Install new pulsator (Part No. 8-25094-266-0) onto fuel tube.
  2. Reinstall fuel pump and strainer. Refer to appropriate installation steps in REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP for details.
  3. Reinstall fuel pump and sending unit assembly into fuel tank. Refer to page 6C-4 of appropriate Service Manual for details.
  4. Reinstall fuel tank. Refer to page 4E-10 of Driveability and Emissions Manual for details.
  5. Lower vehicle and fill fuel tank with fuel.
  6. Reconnect battery ground cable.
