Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Raise the vehicle.
  4. Remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .

  8. Remove the oxygen sensor. Refer to Engine Controls.
  9. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  10. Remove the A/C compressor and lay to the side. Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  11. Remove the power steering pump and the brace. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  12. Remove the heater hose from the lower thermostat housing.

  14. Remove the exhaust manifold and the gasket from the cylinder head.
  15. Inspect all sealing surfaces for warpage or damage. Replace if necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the exhaust manifold gasket and the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.
  2. Install the exhaust nuts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the heater hose and the bracket to the exhaust manifold.
  5. Install the power steering pump brace and the pump to the exhaust manifold stud. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump.
  6. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  7. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  9. Install the oxygen sensor. Refer to Engine Controls.
  10. Install the oil level indicator tube and the indicator. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  11. Raise the vehicle.
  12. Install the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
  13. Lower the vehicle
  14. Fill the cooling system.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
