Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 24420-C Crankshaft Pulley Hub Puller

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  3. Raise the vehicle.

  5. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolts.

  6. Object Number: 3446  Size: SH
  7. Remove the hub bolt of the crankshaft pulley.
  8. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

  9. Object Number: 3452  Size: SH
  10. Position the J 24420-B .

  11. Object Number: 3454  Size: SH
  12. Turn the center puller screw clockwise. This will remove the hub from the crankshaft.
  13. Inspect crankshaft hub for damage. Replace if necessary.
  14. Inspect the crankshaft key for damage. Replace it if necessary.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 29113 Crankshaft Pulley Hub Installer.


    Object Number: 3449  Size: SH
  1. Coat the engine front cover seal contact area with engine oil.

  2. Object Number: 3450  Size: SH
  3. Apply an approved RTV sealer to the key on the crankshaft.

  4. Object Number: 3451  Size: SH
  5. Install the pulley hub into position over the key on the crankshaft.

  6. Object Number: 3453  Size: SH
  7. Install the J 29113 through the hub and into the crankshaft so that at least 6 mm (0.24 in) of thread are engaged.
  8. Pull the crankshaft pulley hub into position against the J 29113 .
  9. Remove the J 29113 .
  10. Make sure that the hub is seated against the crankshaft.

  12. Position the crankshaft pulley over the crankshaft pulley hub.
  13. Install the crankshaft pulley bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts to 50N·m (37 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  15. Install the crankshaft pulley to hub bolt.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft pulley to hub bolt to 105N·m (77 lb ft).

  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  19. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
