Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Raise the vehicle.
  3. Remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold.
  4. Remove the transmission.
  5. Remove the clutch assembly (if equipped).

  6. Object Number: 4334  Size: SH
  7. Remove the flywheel bolts.
  8. Remove the flywheel.
  9. Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal.

  10. Object Number: 4318  Size: SH

    Important
    Use caution when removing the crankshaft rear oil seal. Do not damage the sealing area of the crankshaft.

    Important: Check the sealing area for the crankshaft for burrs and carbon build up. Repair and or replace as necessary.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 34686 Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installer.


    Object Number: 4320  Size: SH
  1. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal using J 34686 .
  2. Remove the tool.
  3. Install the flywheel.
  4. Install the flywheel bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten flywheel bolts to 75 N·m (55 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the clutch assembly (if equipped).
  7. Install the transmission.
  8. Install the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
