Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement Left

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 31487  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner in Engine Controls.
  3. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  4. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling the Engine Coolant in Engine Cooling.
  5. Remove the upper radiator hose.

  7. Remove the PCV valve and tube.
  8. Remove the oxygen sensor electrical connector and bracket.
  9. Remove the air conditioning compressor and set aside. Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  10. Remove the windshield washer hose.

  11. Object Number: 4041  Size: SH
  12. Remove the left valve rocker arm cover. Discard the old gasket and grommet.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 4041  Size: SH
  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover and a new gasket.
  2. Install new grommets into each valve cover through-hole.
  3. Install the rocker arm cover bolts.
  4. Tighten

        • Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the PCV valve and tube.
  6. Connect the spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  7. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner in Engine Controls.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

  2. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the PCV tube.
  4. Remove the engine harness bracket at the generator support.
  5. Remove the nut holding the oil level indicator tube.
  6. Move the heater hoses aside by removing the bracket.

  8. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 4041  Size: SH
  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover and a new gasket.
  2. Install new grommets into each valve cover through-hole.
  3. Install the rocker arm cover bolts.
  4. Tighten

        • Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  5. Reposition the heater hoses.
  6. Install the nut for the oil level indicator tube.
  7. Install the engine harness bracket at the generator support.
  8. Install the PCV tube.
  9. Connect the spark plug wires to the spark plugs. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
