Catalytic Converter Replacement 4.3L

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. Remove the bolts at the front of the three-way catalytic converter.

  3. Object Number: 42947  Size: SH
  4. Unbolt the converter from the muffler.

  5. Object Number: 42987  Size: SH
  6. Remove the converter to hanger attaching bolts.

  7. Object Number: 42989  Size: SH
  8. Remove the converter from the front exhaust pipe.

Installation Procedure

Notice: The three-way catalytic converter requires the use of unleaded fuel only. Using leaded fuel will damage the converter and other emission system components.


    Object Number: 42989  Size: SH
  1. Install the new three-way catalytic converter onto the exhaust pipe.

  2. Object Number: 42987  Size: SH
  3. Install the converter to the converter hanger.

  4. Object Number: 42989  Size: SH
  5. Install a new gasket with the muffler.
  6. Check for clearance.
  7. Check the alignment.
  8. Tighten all clamps and fasteners to specifications. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
  9. Lower the vehicle.

Catalytic Converter Replacement 2.2L

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle.
  2. Remove the clamp at the front of the three-way catalytic converter.

  3. Object Number: 42946  Size: SH
  4. Unbolt the converter from the muffler.

  5. Object Number: 42971  Size: SH
  6. Remove the converter from the converter rod hanger.

  7. Object Number: 42989  Size: SH
  8. Remove the converter from the front exhaust pipe.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the new three-way catalytic converter into the exhaust pipe.

  2. Object Number: 42971  Size: SH
  3. Install converter to the converter rod hanger.

  4. Object Number: 42946  Size: SH
  5. Connect the muffler.

  6. Object Number: 42979  Size: SH
  7. Check for clearance.
  8. Check the alignment.
  9. Tighten all clamps and fasteners to specifications. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Check for leaks.
