Circuit Description

The supplemental restraint Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module (DERM) monitors the voltage at the Driver Source Sense terminal A5, the Driver Side High terminal B9, and the Driver Side Low terminal B8 during the Continuous Monitoring tests. When all voltages measure simultaneously below a specified value for 500 milliseconds, the DERM sets DTC B1014.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The DTC sets when the voltages at terminals A5, B9, and B8 of the DERM harness connector measure simultaneously below a specified value for 500 milliseconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The DERM turns on the AIR BAG warning lamp and sets a diagnostic trouble code.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The DTC clears when the voltage at terminals A5, B9, and B8 of the DERM harness connector measures above a specified value for 500 milliseconds.

Diagnostic Aids

It is highly unlikely that an intermittent condition has set this diagnostic trouble code as this would require a poor connection at the terminals A and B or at the terminals C and D of the supplemental restraint arming sensor.

Test Description

Refer to step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Start at the SRS Diagnostic System Check for all diagnosis.

  2. This test checks for a situation which prevents a proper connection of the supplemental restraint arming sensor jumper harness electrical connector.

  3. This test checks for a situation which prevents a proper connection of the supplemental restraint arming sensor to the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) wiring harness.

When measurements are requested in this table, use J 39200 Digital Multimeter with correct terminal adapter from J 35616 Connector Test Adapter Kit. When a check for proper connection is requested, refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections in Section 8A4. When a wire, connector or terminal repair is requested, use J-38125 Terminal Repair Kit and refer to Wiring Repair.
