J 3049-A Valve Lifter Removal (Plier Type)

1. Remove the intake manifold.

Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .

2. Remove the push rods and the rocker arms.

Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .




3. Remove the valve lifter push rod guide and the bolts.



4. Remove the valve lifters from the engine block.

Refer to Valve Lifter Removal .




5. Use the J 3049-A in order to remove stuck lifters.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.




1. Install the valve lifters to the engine block.

2. Install the valve lifter push rod guide.

Refer to Valve Lifter Installation .

3. Install the intake manifold.

Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .

4. Install the valve push rods and valve rocker arms.

Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
