Oil Pan Replacement Rear Wheel Drive
Removal Procedure
- Drain the engine oil.
Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
.
- Remove the engine.
Refer to Engine Replacement in Engine Mechanical 4.3L.
- Remove the oil pan.
Refer to Oil Pan Removal

- Clean and inspect all parts.

Installation Procedure
- Install the oil pan.

- Install the engine.
Refer to Engine Replacement in Engine Mechanical 4.3L.
- Fill the engine with oil.

Oil Pan Replacement Four Wheel Drive
Removal Procedure
- Remove the battery and
the battery tray.
Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
- Disconnect the shift cable at the actuator.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the underbody shield from the steering linkage and the
engine oil pan.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Remove the starter motor.

- Remove the oil cooler pipes.
- Remove both front wheels and tires.
- Disconnect the electrical connector at the shift cable housing.
- Remove the wiring harness bracket at the shift cable housing.
- Remove (3) shift cable housing bolts.
- Disconnect the shift cable from the differential carrier.
- Remove both drive axles.
Refer to Driveline/Axle.
- Remove the differential.
Refer to Driveline/Axle.
- Remove the following oil pan fasteners:
• | Remove ten oil pan bolts. |
• | Remove two nuts at the crankshaft rear oil seal. |
• | Remove two transmission to oil pan bolts. |
- Remove the oil pan from the engine.
- Clean all sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure
- Install the oil pan.
Notice
Any time the transmission and the engine oil pan are off of the engine
at the same time, the transmission must be installed before the oil pan. This
will allow for the proper measurement of the oil pan tolerance. Failure to
achieve the correct clearance can result in premature transmission failure.

- Install the differential.
Refer to Driveline/Axle.
- Install both drive axles.
Refer to Drive/Axle.
- Connect the shift cable to the differential carrier.
- Install (3) shift cable housing bolts.
- Install the wiring harness bracket at the shift cable housing.
- Connect the electrical connector at the shift cable housing.
- Install both front wheels and tires.
- Install the oil cooler pipes.
- Install the starter motor.

- Install the underbody shield to the steering
linkage and the engine oil pan.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the shift cable at the actuator.
- Install the battery and
battery tray.

- Fill the engine with engine oil.
