Cylinder Head Replacement Left

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
3. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct from the throttle body. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls.
4. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
5. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.

Important: Do not evacuate the A/C system. The A/C pipes can remain on the compressor.

6. Remove the air conditioning compressor, if equipped, and move aside. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C - Manual.



7. Remove the AIR pipe bracket and nut, if equipped from the power steering pump rear bracket stud.
8. Remove the nuts holding the power steering pump rear bracket to the engine.




Important: The power steering pump can remain on the power steering pump mounting bracket. The power steering pump hoses can remain attached to the power steering pump.

9. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket and secure out of the way. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement .
10. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket stud from the cylinder head.
11. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
12. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .



13. Remove the spark plug wire harness and the support.



14. Remove the ground wires at the rear of the cylinder head.
15. Remove the fuel line bracket bolt at the rear of the cylinder head.
16. Remove the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .



17. Remove the cylinder head bolts.
18. Remove the cylinder head.
19. Clean all surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .

1. Install the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation .
2. Install the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .




Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the spark plug wire harness and the support.

Tighten
Tighten the support bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).




4. Install the ground wires at the rear of the cylinder head.

Tighten
Tighten the ground wire bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

5. Install the fuel pipe bracket bolt at the rear of the cylinder head.

Tighten
Tighten the fuel pipe bracket bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

6. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .
7. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .



8. Install the power steering pump mounting bracket stud in the cylinder head.

Tighten
Tighten the power steering pump mounting bracket stud to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

9. Install the power steering pump mounting bracket. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement .



10. Install the nuts holding the power steering pump rear bracket to the engine.

Tighten
Tighten the power steering pump rear bracket nuts to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

11. Install the AIR bracket and nut, if equipped.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

12. Install the air conditioning compressor, if equipped. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in HVAC Systems with A/C - Manual.
13. Install the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
14. Fill the engine coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
15. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
16. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
17. Install the air cleaner outlet duct onto the throttle body. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls.

Cylinder Head Replacement Right

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
3. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct from the throttle body. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls.
4. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
5. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
6. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
7. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .



8. Remove the spark plug wire harness and the support.



9. Remove the ground wires at the rear of the cylinder head.



10. Remove the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement .
11. Remove the generator mounting bracket stud from the cylinder head.
12. Remove the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .



13. Remove the cylinder head bolts.
14. Remove the cylinder head.
15. Clean all surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .

1. Install the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation .
2. Install the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

Tighten
Tighten the support bolts to 12  N·m (106 lb in).

Tighten the ground wire stud to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

5. Install the exhaust manifolds. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .
6. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .



7. Install the generator mounting bracket stud to the cylinder head.

Tighten
Tighten the stud to 20  N·m (15 lb ft).

8. Install the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement .
9. Install the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
10. Fill the engine coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
11. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
12. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
13. Install the air cleaner outlet duct onto the throttle body. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls.
