Oil Pan Replacement RWD

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 31739  Size: SH
  1. Remove the engine. Refer to Engine Replacement .
  2. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
  3. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Removal .
  4. Clean and inspect all parts. Refer to Oil Pan Clean and Inspect .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Installation .
  2. Install the engine. Refer to Engine Replacement .
  3. Fill the engine with oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .

Oil Pan Replacement Four Wheel Drive

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the oil level indicator.
  3. Remove the front differential assembly. Refer to Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement in Front Drive Axle.
  4. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  5. Remove the transmission cover.
  6. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
  7. Remove the remote oil filter pipe adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter and Bypass Valve Assembly Replacement .

  9. Remove the bolt holding the remote oil filter inlet and outlet hose clip to the oil pan.

  10. Object Number: 327996  Size: SH
  11. Remove the bolt holding the bracket for the starter wire harness and if equipped, the transmission cooler pipes.

  12. Object Number: 331034  Size: SH
  13. Remove the access plugs for the oil pan rear nuts.

  14. Object Number: 31739  Size: SH
  15. Remove the following oil pan fasteners:
  16. • Remove ten oil pan bolts.
    • Remove two nuts at the crankshaft rear oil seal.
    • Remove the transmission to oil pan bolts.
  17. Remove the oil pan from the engine. Refer to Oil Pan Removal .
  18. Clean all sealing surfaces. Refer to Oil Pan Clean and Inspect .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Installation .
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the transmission to oil pan bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission to the oil pan bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  5. Install the access plugs for the oil pan rear nuts.

  6. Object Number: 327996  Size: SH
  7. Install the bolt holding the bracket for the starter wire harness and if equipped, the transmission cooler pipes.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  9. Install the remote oil filter pipe adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter and Bypass Valve Assembly Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 344049  Size: SH
  11. Install the bolt holding the oil filter inlet and outlet hose clip to the oil pan.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the hose clip bolt to 10 N·m (88 lb in).


    Object Number: 334324  Size: SH
  13. Install the transmission cover and bolts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  15. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  16. Install the front differential assembly. Refer to Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement in Front Drive Axle.
  17. Install the oil level indicator.
  18. Fill the engine with engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  19. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
