Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Place a drain pan under the transmission oil pan.
  3. Remove the oil pan drain plug.

  4. Object Number: 13952  Size: SH
  5. Remove the oil pan bolts.

  6. Object Number: 13955  Size: SH
  7. Remove the oil pan and the gasket.

  8. Object Number: 13958  Size: SH
  9. Remove the fluid filter and the seal.
  10. Retain the seal for reuse.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 36850

  1. Coat the seal with a small amount of J 36850 , or equivalent.

  2. Object Number: 13958  Size: SH
  3. Install the new filter neck seal into the transmission case.
  4. Install the filter into the case.

  5. Object Number: 13955  Size: SH
  6. Install the oil pan and a new gasket.

  7. Object Number: 13952  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the oil pan bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Oil pan to transmission case bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  10. Apply a small amount of sealant to the threads of the oil pan drain plug.
  11. Install the oil pan drain plug.
  12. Tighten
    Oil pan drain plug to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Fill the transmission to the proper level. Use DEXRON® III automatic transmission fluid.
