Electronic Column Lock Module - Assemble - Off Vehicle Column Shift
Tools Required
J 41396 Park Lock
Cable Pliers
- Install the lock bolt
spring (3) into the steering column housing assembly (5).
- Position the cutout in the lock bolt assembly (4) at the
6 o'clock position.
- Install the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column
housing assembly (5).
- Push the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column
housing assembly (5) until the lock bolt assembly is flush with the
steering column housing assembly (5).
- Align the lock module assembly (2) with the steering column
housing assembly (5).
Install the lock module assembly (2) onto the steering column
housing assembly (5).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Screw the 3 pan
head tapping screws (1) into the lock module assembly (2).
Tighten
Tighten the 3 pan head tapping screws to 7N·m (62 lb in).
- Slide the ignition and
key alarm switch assembly (3) into the lock module assembly (1).
- Push the key alarm connector (1)
into the lock module assembly (2).
- Rotate the key alarm connector 90 degrees so that the key
alarm connector locks into place.
- Install the Pass-Key® connector into the lock
module assembly (2).
- Place steering column
lock cylinder set into the off position.
- Place the shift lever clevis into the park position.
- Press the locking tab on the end of the park lock cable assembly (1)
into the slot in the lock module assembly.
- Install the steering column lock cylinder set only.
- Adjust the park lock cable
assembly (1) by performing the following steps:
15.1. | Use the shift lever clevis to place the steering column in the
park position. |
15.2. | Insert the key into the ignition switch. |
15.3. | Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the off or lock
position. |
15.4. | Remove the key from the ignition switch. |
15.5. | Unlock the adjuster ring on the park lock cable assembly using J 41396
. |
15.6. | Pull on the park lock cable until the park lock latch contacts
the shift lever clevis. |
15.7. | Release the park lock cable. |
15.8. | Lock the adjuster ring securely in place on the park lock cable
assembly using J 41396
. |
- Inspect the park lock cable assembly by performing the following
steps:
16.1. | Insert the key into the ignition switch. |
16.2. | Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the off or lock
position. The shift lever clevis must remain locked in the park position. |
16.3. | Place the steering column lock cylinder set in the run position. |
16.4. | Place the shift lever clevis in the neutral position. |
16.5. | With the shift lever clevis in the neutral position, the steering
column lock cylinder set must remain out of the off or lock position. |
16.6. | Place the shift lever clevis in the park position. |
16.7. | Put the steering column lock cylinder set in the off or lock position. |
16.8. | Remove the key from the ignition switch. |
- Install the upper column housing components. Refer to
Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Bearing Thrust Washer - Assemble - Off Vehicle

Assembly Procedure
- Install the lock bolt
spring (3) into the steering column housing assembly (5).
- Position the cutout in the lock bolt assembly (4) at the
6 o' clock position.
- Install the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column
housing assembly (5).
- Push the lock bolt assembly (4) into the steering column
housing assembly (5) until the lock bolt assembly (4) is flush
with the steering column housing assembly (5).
- Align the lock module assembly (2) with the steering column
housing assembly (5).
Install the lock module assembly (2) onto the steering column
housing assembly (5).

assembly (2).
Tighten
Tighten the 3 pan head tapping screws to 7 N·m (62 lb in).
- Slide the ignition and
key alarm switch assembly (3) into the lock module assembly (1).
- Snap the electric park
lock (2) onto the lock module assembly (1).
- Reconnect the connector (2)
to the electric park lock (1).
- Install the key alarm
connector (1) onto the lock module assembly (2) in the following
way:
10.1. | Push the key alarm connector (1) into the lock module assembly (2). |
10.2. | Rotate the key alarm connector 90 (1) degrees so
that the key alarm connector locks into place. |
10.3. | Install the passkey connector into the lock module assembly (2). |
- Install the upper column housing components. Refer to
Turn Signal Cancel Cam and Bearing Thrust Washer - Assemble - Off Vehicle
T/S Can. Cam, Bearing Thrust Washer - Assemble (Floor
Shift).
- Install the steering column lock cylinder set.
