Metric Fasteners
Current model Isuzu vehicles are primarily dimensioned in the metric
system. Many of the fasteners used on Isuzu vehicles are metric, but are very
close in dimension to well-known inch system fasteners. Replace
fasteners with those of the same nominal diameter, thread pitch, and strength.
Original equipment metric fasteners (except beauty bolts, like exposed
bumper bolts and cross-recess head screws) are identified by a marking or
a number which indicates the strength of the material in the fastener.
Metric cross-recess screws are identified as either Posidriv or Type
1A. Either Posidriv® or Type 1A cross-recess screwdrivers can be
used in Posidriv® recess screw heads. However, Type 1A cross-recess
screwdrivers perform better.
Prevailing Torque Fasteners
Prevailing torque fasteners create a thread interface between the fastener
and the fastener counterpart in order to prevent the fastener from loosening.
All Metal Prevailing Torque Fasteners
These fasteners accomplish the thread interface by a designed distortion
or deformation in the fastener.
Nylon Interface Prevailing Torque Fasteners
These fasteners accomplish the thread interface by the presence of a
nylon material on the fastener threads.
Adhesive Coated Fasteners
These fasteners accomplish the thread interface by the presence of a
thread-locking compound on the fastener threads. Refer to the appropriate
repair procedure in order to determine if the fastener may be reused and
the applicable thread-locking compound to apply to the fastener.
