Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement 2.2L Engine

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 281146  Size: SH

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the system.
  3. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  4. Remove the drive belt.
  5. Refer to Accessory Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

  6. Remove the electrical connectors as necessary.
  7. Remove the compressor and condenser hose assembly.
  8. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .

  9. Remove the compressor bolts.
  10. Remove the compressor rear bracket bolts.
  11. Remove the compressor from the brackets.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the compressor into the brackets.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the compressor rear bracket bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor rear bracket bolts to 31 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the compressor bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the compressor and condenser hose assembly.
  8. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .

  9. Install the electrical connectors, if necessary.
  10. Install the drive belt.
  11. Refer to Accessory Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

  12. Connect the battery negative cable.
  13. Add refrigerant to the system.
  14. Inspect the system for leaks.

Removal Procedure

    Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the compressor and condenser hose assembly.

  7. Install the electrical connectors as necessary.
  8. Install the drive belt.
  9. Refer to Accessory Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.

  10. Connect the battery negative cable.
  11. Add refrigerant to the system.
  12. Inspect the system for leaks.
