J 28662 Brake Pedal
Effort Gauge
Inspect the brake pedal travel at frequent intervals. Brake pedal travel
is the distance the brake pedal moves toward the floor from a fully released
position. Inspect the brake pedal travel when the brakes are cold. Use the J 28662
.
- Turn the engine OFF.
- Press and release the brake pedal 5 times in order to exhaust
the vacuum from the vacuum booster.
- Measure the distance from
the bottom of the steering wheel to the brake pedal with the brake pedal released.
- Apply about 455 N
(100 lbs) on the brake pedal. Use the J 28662
.
- Measure the distance again.
- Subtract the first measurement from the second measurement.
- If the brake pedal travel is more than 42 mm (1.7 in),
