  1. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  2. Use the scan tool to verify communication with the following components on the class 2 data link:
  3. • The Body Control Module (BCM)
    • The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
    • The Instrument Cluster

Are all of the modules communicating with the scan tool?

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Data Line in Data Link Communications

Use the scan tool in order to inspect for DTCs in the above listed modules and Instrument Cluster.

Are any DTCs present?

Go to the appropriate DTC Diagnostic

Go to Step 4

Use the scan tool to monitor the park brake warning switch input 1 to the BCM.

Does the switch change state between set and released during operation of the park brake lever?

Go to Step 8

Disconnect the park brake warning switch.

Is the brake warning lamp still ON?

Go to Step 6

Repair the short to ground in CKT 1134 (LT BLU) between the park brake warning switch and the BCM.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the park brake warning switch

Is the repair complete?

Use the scan tool to verify if the brake pressure warning switch state is OK or LOW.

Is the brake pressure warning switch state LOW?

Disconnect the brake pressure warning switch.

Is the brake warning lamp still ON?

Repair the short to ground in CKT 680 (PPL) between the brake pressure warning switch and the EBCM.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the brake pressure warning switch.

Use the scan tool to turn the brake warning lamp on and off.

Does the lamp turn on and off?
