Dry Application
Important: Most stripes and decals can be applied dry as long as the application
is bubble-free. Wet mount stripes or decals that wrap into the body openings
or are mounted on flexible surfaces.
Apply the decals in a clean environment. Do not allow dust or fibers
to interfere with proper adhesion.
- Clean the areas where the decal or the
stripe will be mounted.
Use a mixture of 50 percent isopropyl alcohol and 50 percent water.
- Dry the area thoroughly.
- If the paint in the area is chipped, repair the paint. Feather
in the paint.
- Warm the body surface and the decal or the stripe to 27°-38°C
(80°-100°F).
Wet Application
- Use a wetting agent such
as Dupont®
Duponal WA or an equivalent. Do not use a soap solution.
Duponal is a paste. Mix Duponal with water (5 percent Duponal WA and
95 percent water). Follow the manufacturer's instructions and warnings.
- Remove the backing from the decal or the stripe.
In hot, humid weather, spray the back of the decal with a mist of the
wetting solution.
- Start at the center of the decal and squeegee the decal to the
body. Using a squeegee removes air bubbles and wetting solution.
- Remove the premask from the decal by pulling the premask back
onto the premask. Do not lift the premask straight up.
- Use a squeegee on the decal.
- Prick any air bubbles with a pin.
- Heat decals that are at or below the belt line of the vehicle
to at least 60°C (140°F). Use a Teflon sheathed squeegee on the decal
while the decal is still hot.
