Spot Cleaning Fabric Trim with Solvent Type Cleaner
Before you try to remove a spot or a stain from the fabric, determine
the type of the stain and the age of the stain. You can remove some spots
and stains with water or a mild soap solution. Remove spots or stains as
soon as possible.
Some stains are very difficult, sometimes impossible, to remove. These
stains include the following:
When you clean this type of stain, do not enlarge the soiled area. Use
a fabric cleaner (solvent type) or an equivalent in order to spot clean the
following stains:
Gently scrape excess stains from the material. Use very little cleaner.
Use light pressure. Use clean cloths, preferably cheesecloth. Start cleaning
at the outside of the stain and feather toward the center. Continue to change
to a clean section of the cloth.
After you remove the stain, immediately dry the area with a heat dryer
or a heat lamp in order to prevent cleaning ring. Use caution with the heat
dryer or the lamp in order to prevent fabric damage.
If a ring forms, immediately repeat the cleaning operation over a slightly
larger area. Place emphasis on feather toward the center. If a ring still
remains, mask off the surrounding trim sections. Clean the entire area with
a multi-purpose powdered cleaner or an equivalent.
