Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 14144 Size: SH
  1. Remove the IAC valve electrical connector.
  2. Remove the IAC valve attaching screws (1).
  3. Notice: If the IAC valve has been in service: DO NOT push or pull on the IAC valve pintle. The force required to move the pintle may damage the threads on the worm drive. Also, DO NOT soak the IAC valve in any liquid cleaner or solvent, as damage may result.

  4. Remove the IAC valve assembly (2).
  5. Clean IAC valve O-ring sealing surface, pintle valve seat, and air passage as follows:
  6. • Clean the IAC valve using a shop towel or a parts cleaning brush to remove heavy deposits.
    • Shiny spots on the pintle or seat are normal and do not indicate misalignment or a bent pintle shaft.
    • Whenever air passage have heavy deposits, remove the throttle body for complete cleaning.
    • Inspect IAC valve O-ring for cuts, cracks, or distortion. Replace if damaged.

Installation Procedure

Important: Whenever installing a new IAC valve, be sure to replace it with an identical part. IAC valve pintle shape and diameter are designed for the specific application.

  1. Perform the IAC valve measurement procedure as follows:

  2. Object Number: 17065 Size: SH
1.1. Measure the distance between tip of IAC valve pintle and mounting flange.
1.2. If greater than 28 mm, use finger pressure to slowly retract the pintle. The force required to retract the pintle of a new valve will not cause damage to the valve.

    Object Number: 14144 Size: SH
  3. Lubricate IAC valve O-ring (3) with clean engine oil.
  4. Install the IAC valve assembly (2).
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the IAC valve attaching screws (1).
  7. Tighten
Tighten the IAC valve attaching screws to 3.0 N·m (27 lb in).

  8. Install the electrical connector.
  9. Reset the IAC valve pintle position as follows:
  10. 6.1. Turn On the ignition, with the engine OFF.
6.2. Turn OFF the ignition for ten seconds.
6.3. Start the engine and test for proper idle operation.
