Removal Procedure

  1. Set the park brake. Block the wheels.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  4. Release the park brake release cable from the park brake lever.
  5. Remove the left side and the center side of the instrument panel sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side or Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Center .
  6. Remove the screws that retains the courtesy lamp to the knee bolster.
  7. Remove the screws that retain the knee bolster to the instrument panel.
  8. Disconnect the lighter outlet electrical connector.
  9. Remove the knee bolster from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the lighter outlet electrical connector.
  2. Install the knee bolster to the vehicle.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the TORX® and the hex head screws that retain the knee bolster to the instrument panel.
  5. Tighten

        • Tighten the TORX® head screws to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
        • Tighten the hex head screws to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).
  6. Install the screw that retains the courtesy lamp to the knee bolster.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.9 N·m (17 lb ft).

  8. Install the left side and the center instrument panel sound insulators. Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Center or Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  9. Install the park brake release cable to the park brake lever.
  10. Connect the battery negative cable.
