J 39400 Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the battery from the vehicle. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  3. Object Number: 3723  Size: SH
  4. Remove the evaporator tube clip screw.
  5. Remove the evaporator tube clip from the accumulator.
  6. Remove the evaporator tube from the evaporator.
  7. Remove the O-ring seal and discard.

  8. Object Number: 281178  Size: SH
  9. Remove the evaporator tube from the condenser.
  10. Remove the O-ring seal and discard.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a new O-ring seal.
  2. Coat the O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the evaporator tube to the condenser.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the evaporator tube to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. Install a new O-ring seal.
  6. Coat the O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  7. Install the evaporator tube to the evaporator.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the evaporator tube to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  9. Install the evaporator tube clip to the accumulator.
  10. Install the evaporator tube clip screw.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  12. Install the battery to the vehicle. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  13. Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  14. Leak test the fitting(s) of the repaired or reinstalled components using the J 39400 .
