Later production 1992 2.3L (VIN A, D, 3) engines have a powdered metal design camshaft sprocket. Servicing the new camshaft sprocket requires Camshaft Sprocket Wrench J 39579. Camshaft Sprocket Wrench J 39579 is used in the same manner as the previous design, J 36013. Refer to the illustration below for the new sprocket and tool design.
The Camshaft Sprocket Wrench J 39579 will be delivered to dealers in September 1992.. Until J 39579 is available, loaners are available from Kent-Moore by calling 1-800-345-2233.
When servicing an early 1992 production camshaft sprocket, replace it with the new design camshaft sprocket, GM P/N 24570973 which is currently available from GMSPO.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
