No Converter Clutch Apply

Checks

Cause

Verify Proper PCM Operation and Vehicle Wiring

Improper operation or wiring

Wiring Harness

    • Damaged or loose connector
    • Pinched wires
    • Inoperative TCC Solenoid valve

Control Valve Assembly

    • Stuck converter clutch valve
    • Stuck converter clutch regulator valve

TCC Solenoid Valve

Leaking solenoid O-ring

Solenoid Screen

Blocked screen

Torque Converter

Inspect the converter (refer to the section on Transmission Unit Repair)

Turbine Shaft

Damaged seals

Oil Pump Drive Shaft

Damaged seal

Channel Plate

Damaged or unseated blow off checkball for the converter clutch

TCC Solenoid Valve for OFF Failure

    • Foreign material and plugging in the filter
    • Insufficient force
    • O-ring failure
    • No PCM signal
    • Open wire
    • No supply voltage to the TCC solenoid valve
    • Improperly molded solenoid housing, which causes the solenoid to separate from the control valve assembly

TCC Solenoid Valve for ON Failure

    • Foreign material
    • Pinched wire
    • Grounded PCM signal

Brake Switch (No TCC Apply)

    • No supply voltage
    • Corroded connector
    • Corroded switch contact
    • Loose connector
    • Pinched wire

PRNDL Circuit Problem

    • Loose connector
    • Corroded connector
    • Corroded switch contact
    • Pinched wire
    • PRNDL connector wires A and B are switched around, if PRNDL indicates anything but D3 or D4

Coolant Temperature Sensor

    • Corroded Connector
    • Incorrect resistance
    • Loose connector
    • Pinched wire
