Accelerator Controls Cable

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 21148  Size: SH
  1. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  2. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal.
  3. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the accelerator cable through the bulkhead.

  4. Object Number: 12735  Size: SH
  5. Remove the accelerator cable shield, if equipped.
  6. Remove the accelerator cable from the retaining clip.
  7. Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle body lever.
  8. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator cable bracket.

  9. Object Number: 12734  Size: SH
  10. Remove the accelerator cable from vehicle noting cable routing.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 12734  Size: SH

    Notice: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within 50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference and damage to the component.

  1. Install accelerator cable into car using routing noted during removal

  2. Object Number: 21148  Size: SH
  3. Install the snap retainer through the bulkhead.
  4. Install the accelerator cable through the slot in the accelerator pedal lever.
  5. Seat the snap retainer in the accelerator pedal lever.

  6. Object Number: 12735  Size: SH
  7. Install the accelerator cable to the throttle body lever.
  8. Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator cable bracket.
  9. Install the accelerator cable into the retaining clip.
  10. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  11. Install the accelerator cable shield, if equipped.
  12. Inspect and check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
  13. Inspect the throttle should operate freely, without binding, between full closed and wide open throttle.

Accelerator Controls Cable Bracket

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 12689  Size: SH
  1. Remove the accelerator cable cross slug from throttle body slot.
  2. Depress the tangs and remove the accelerator cable from accelerator cable bracket.
  3. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the accelerator cable bracket to the throttle body.
  4. Remove the accelerator cable bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 12689  Size: SH
  1. Install the accelerator cable bracket to throttle body.
  2. Install the nuts and bolts.
  3. Tighten

        • Tighten the nuts to 26 N·m (19  lb. ft.)
        • Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m(106  lb. in.)

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the accelerator cable into accelerator cable bracket.
  5. Install the accelerator cable cross slug into throttle body slots.

Accelerator Controls Pedal

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 21148  Size: SH
  1. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  2. Remove the accelerator cable from accelerator pedal.
  3. Remove the accelerator pedal nuts to cowl.
  4. Remove the accelerator pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 21148  Size: SH
  1. Install the accelerator pedal assembly.
  2. Install the accelerator pedal nuts to cowl.
  3. Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator pedal
  4. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  5. Inspect and check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
  6. Inspect the throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle.
