Inspect the fuel gauge.

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank unit connector C313.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.

Does the fuel gauge indicate E?

Inspect CKT 30 for a short to ground.

Did you find and repair a condition?

--

System OK

Go to Step 10

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank unit connector C313.
  2. Disconnect the 2 red leads of J33431 to terminal 3D (CKT 30) and terminal 3B (CKT 451).
  3. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  4. Set the resistance dials on the tester to 0 ohms (E) and then to 90 ohms (F).

Does the fuel gauge respond correctly?

Inspect CKT 30 and CKT 451 for high resistance and inspect the fuel gauge connections at the back of the instrument panel.

Did you find a condition?

Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect the fuel tank connector unit C313.
  2. Connect a jumper from terminal 3D (CKT 30) to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.

Does the fuel gauge indicate E?

Go to Step 8

Connect a jumper between terminals 3D (CKT 30) and 3B (CKT 451) of the fuel tank unit connector C313.

Does the fuel gauge indicate E?

Go to Step 11

Inspect CKT 30 for an open.

Did you find and repair a condition?

--

System OK

Go to Step 10

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement.

Repair the open in CKT 451.

Replace the fuel tank unit.
