Instrument Panel Replacement Oldsmobile and Buick
Removal Procedure
- Remove the trim plate from the instrument panel cluster. Refer
to
Instrument Panel Lower Center Trim Replacement
.
- Remove the air vents and the grille.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the trim plate (1)
from the instrument cluster.
- Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement.
- Remove the turn signal switch. Refer to
Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle
in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard.
- Remove the tilt wheel lever. Refer to
Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement.
- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to
Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement
.
- Remove the valance/defroster grille from the instrument panel.

.
- Remove the screws (1)
from the instrument panel carrier.
- Remove the instrument
panel (3).
Installation Procedure
- Install the instrument
panel (3).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the screws (1)
to the instrument panel carrier.
Tighten
• | Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) |
• | Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (17 lb in) |
- Install the valance/defroster grille to the instrument panel.

- Install the instrument panel compartment. Refer to

- Install the steering wheel. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement

- Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement.
- Install the tilt wheel lever. Refer to
Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Install the turn signal switch. Refer to
Multifunction, Turn Signal, and Hazard Switch Replacement - On Vehicle
in Steering Wheel and Column - Standard.
- Install the trim plate and the instrument cluster. Refer to IP
Cluster Replacement.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Install the trim plate
to the instrument panel cluster. Refer to
Instrument Panel Lower Center Trim Replacement
.
- Install the air vents and the grille to the instrument panel.

Removal Procedure
- Remove the sound insulators. Refer to

- Disable the SIR system. Refer to

- Remove the IP cluster. Refer to IP Cluster Replacement.
- Remove the turn signal stalk. Refer to

- Remove the wiper stalk. Refer to Wiper Switch Replacement in Wiper/Washer

- Remove the tilt wheel lever. Refer to

- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to

- Remove the IP compartment. Refer to
Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement

- Remove the valance/defroster grille. Refer to

- Remove the screws (1)
from the instrument panel carrier.
- Remove the instrument
panel (4)
Installation Procedure
- Install the instrument
panel (4).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
